Sydney Friesen

Iโ€™m a 21-year-old graphic designer from Winnipeg, MB. My love of aesthetics and problem solving is what lead me to this industry. My interests lie in branding, UX/UI, and product design. I love finding new ways to add a vintage touch through texture, typography and illustration.

When Iโ€™m not designing I enjoy listening to podcasts, interior design, thrifting, and obsessing over my cat.

Mimic Games is a fictitious brand I created and designed. They redesign typically homemade or โ€œfoundโ€ card games into a series under one brand and look, which in this case is Tattoo Shoppe Florals. This initial box set comes with the games “Bet or Buy”, “Sequence” and “Sticks” and all the supplies needed to play them all designed with the tattoo shop florals theme. The box set and brand are supplemented with marketing materials such as temporary tattoos, coasters and apparel.

King Taco is a food truck brand I created throughout the year with the help of my mentor. It is a Winnipeg-based taco truck that has a fun hand-drawn mascot and an authentic vintage feel. The project includes the design of the truck, the uniforms, packaging, social media and specialty hot sauces.

Parcel

  • Typography
  • Packaging

Parcel is a font inspired by the typography used in the branding/labelling on the backs of mid-century furniture. Specifically, Swiss furniture designers such as Adrian Pearsall, Heywood Wakefield, and Finn Juhl. Inspiration drawn from these fonts includes rounded corners, straight stems/strokes, condensed glyphs and low contrast stroke weights. You can use Parcel to add a vintage feel or to add softness to a modern design.
